Introduction: How to Appear Natural When Giving a Speech

This video explains why natural, relaxed speakers aren’t relying on tricks or posture but on clarity of message and a strong understanding of their audience. You’ll hear why many people struggle to sound natural, and how sharpening what you want to say often matters more than refining how you stand or move.

What you’ll learn: Tips for Speaking More Naturally

  • Why natural delivery comes from clarity, not posture
  • How understanding your audience makes you sound more confident
  • Why unclear messaging blocks natural speech
  • How removing unnecessary slides can improve your delivery
  • Why your real work starts before you ever open PowerPoint

Summary: Becoming a More Natural and Relaxed Speaker

Natural speakers look at ease because they know exactly what they want to say and who they’re saying it to. When your message is vague or you don’t fully believe in it, it becomes harder to deliver and much harder to sound authentic. Many people think their problem is stance or body language, but often the real issue is unclear thinking. By stripping away unnecessary slides and focusing on your core message, you free yourself to speak more naturally. Once your message is strong, your delivery becomes stronger too.

Mini FAQ: Speaking Naturally and Confidently

Why don’t I sound natural when I speak?
Often it’s because your message isn’t clear yet. When you’re unsure what you want to say, your delivery tightens.

Does body language matter?
It helps, but it won’t fix unclear thinking. Message first, delivery second.

Why remove PowerPoint?
Slides can hide unclear ideas. Speaking without them helps you understand your message properly before adding visuals.

How can I relax before speaking?
Know your audience, shape your message and trust what you’re saying. That builds natural confidence.

Transcript (edited)

When you’re giving a speech, you want to appear natural. The best speakers are relaxed, and that helps their audience relax too. How do they do that? Usually it’s because they’ve focused on the audience and on what they’re trying to say. If you get that right, you’re far more likely to sound natural.

People often come to me saying they need help with how they stand or what they should do with their hands. In reality, what blocks them is that they don’t fully believe in what they’re saying or they haven’t thought it through properly. That’s why they can’t get the words out. I’ve probably had more success by tearing up people’s PowerPoint slides than anything else.
